Mayans, Nostradamus, astrology and Hebrew Prophets

Well, today is December 22 and the world is still here. The Mayan calendar ended yesterday and supposedly with it, the end of the world. No surprise. A lot of people have been predicting the world's end for a very long period of time and it hasn't come to pass.

Nostradamus is a man who made "prophecies" in quatrains and they are detailed in his book Les Propheties. Nostradamus was considered a "seer" and who predicted major world future events. He was involved in the occult. While many of the Nostradamus quatrains seemingly were accurate, not all were.

Every morning, people you know-- maybe you are one-- open the paper or go on-line to check their horoscope to see what they should do that day. Should I stay home or go to work? Pursue this new relationship or go another route? It is based on the stars and planets and when you and where you were born. It is hardly accurate and most folks I know don't have their lives revolve around it. They would consider it amusing or fun, especially if the vagueness of the astrological blurbs are made to fit their present situations.

However, there is another group of prophets that have been 100 percent accurate. They were the Hebrew prophets of the Old Testament of the Bible. It was a dangerous profession to be a Hebrew prophet. Accuracy had to be 100 percent or the prophet was executed. The prophets were to speak only what God Himself told them and nothing more.

The Hebrew prophets also spoke of the reign of the Messiah and the end of the world but they also foretold in great detail that the Messiah would be born of a virgin in Bethlehem, would be from the tribe and lineage of the great king David, would be eventually be mocked, disfigured from beatings and executed. It was the portrait of Messiah as the suffering Servant found in Isaiah 53 and 54. The prophets also foretold He would rise again.

There are over 300 specific prophecies regarding Jesus Christ the Messiah in the Old Testament that have been literally fulfilled. These prophecies were written by different men of different generations spanning hundreds and thousands of years all under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. They have been 100 percent accurate.  The prophets also foretell that the Messiah would come again as a conquering king after global war and the virtual annihilation of most people on the planet. Those will also literally come true. That time is very close. Unlike the Mayan calendar, Nostradamus and astrology, the Hebrew prophets heard directly from God, not an occultic source as did the others. The remaining prophecies concerning Jesus will also literally be fulfilled. You can take that to the bank.

During this Christmas season we celebrate the virgin birth of Jesus, the one who would be both Suffering Servant and Coming King. The words of Luke's Gospel tell the familiar story. Jesus is the Prince of Peace as the prophets said and if you don't know Jesus, you really don't know the ultimate peace He alone brings. Jesus is the source of our peace and wants you to have that peace in your own lives. Commit your life to the Lord Jesus Christ and invite Him into what the Bible calls your heart and begin to read God's word-- the Bible-- for a true understanding of life and what He wants for you.

And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. 6 So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
14 "Glory to God in the highest,And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"
  (Luke 2:1-14 NKJV)

God bless you this Christmas and may you celebrate every single day the birth, death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus who is the soon coming King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
