We Get What We Deserve

The 2012 election is finally over and whether your candidate won or not or the issues you supported were approved or defeated, it does speak well of a representative democratic republic that we can exercise our free choices without somebody putting a gun to our heads.

What is disturbing, however, is that our country's citizens have continued to take us down a path of unrighteousness where wrong is considered right  and right is wrong.  God's truth as revealed in the Bible is discarded in favor of man's wisdom. Paul wrote the following to the Corinthian church, a very worldly and carnal church where God's truth and God's way for man to live were being compromised daily:

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent." (1 Corinthians 1:18-19)

Paul also wrote in Romans what happens to people who continue to do things their way instead of God's way. He spoke of changing social mores  just as Jesus said it would be in the days of Lot (Luke 17:28). Paul's Romans passages from 1:18-2:11 are worth your review. He doesn't "make nice" or pull any punches. He lays it right out there.

In this past election, the states of Washington, Maryland, Minnesota and Maine have passed gay marriage laws. Colorado and Washington have also passed laws legalizing marijuana for recreational purposes. We have re-elected a president who has run up such a huge deficit it is doubtful we can make it out. Spending our way out of a financial crisis is not sound economically. When everything tanks, the people will be looking for a savior to step in and "fix everything". They will get what they want but the "savior" won't be versed in God's way of doing things.  Why? The Bible tells us so.

We in this country want what we want and we certainly want somebody else to pay the bill. We no longer sacrifice for our neighbors or save for what we want. We just "put it on credit" and fully embrace a "me first" ideology.  we are "entitled" to what we think we deserve.

Jesus said to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and then material blessings, et al would be added to us. We have got it backwards financially and really backwards socially and spiritually. We see churches that have a form of godliness but deny God's power and ways (2 Timothy 3:1-5) and Titus 1:15-16).

God's word is true and can be believed.  The Psalmist said the following:

Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light  to my path

(Psalm119:105)

If you know the word of God you will know what God wants and expects. It is always the best way.
Christians....what has happened to us that we have allowed this country to so seriously fall from embracing the word of God as a standard for our behavior?

One of our church's pastors made a statement a couple of years ago. "What one generation tolerates, the next generation embraces."  Fifty years ago, abortion was considered murder of an unborn child. Today, it is a "right" and it is legal. We are experiencing that embracing right now and it's only going to get worse. What are you going to do about changing the culture of embracing wrong? Just because something is legal doesn't mean it is right.

I also saw a great statement on a forum earlier this week.  It said:

If God doesn't judge America for it's sins and abandonment of His ways, He owes Sodom and Gomorrah a very big apology.

Sodom and Gomorrah were "anything goes" cities. God judged them for that. Make no mistake about it. God will allow us to do what we want. He will also judge us for what we do. He judged Israel and He will judge us.

If you don't know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, this would be a very good day to embrace Him and His ways. The word of God says we all need a savior because we have all sinned (Romans 3:10-12,23) and the price for that sin is spiritual death (Romans 6:23). Jesus died for our sins (Romans 5:8) and we can have eternal  life in Him and with Him (Romans 10:9-10,13).

Do this, find a Bible-believing church and see what Jesus can do for you, your family and friends.

The righteous judgement of God is coming.

God bless.
